It was a rowdy, chaotic and precarious situation on Tuesday, April 2nd 2024, at the Thank You Visit Tour And Empowerment Programm held at Abraham Tabernacle Parking Lot, Off Oba Erinwole Road, Sagamu, Remo, area of Ogun State, by the Ogun East Senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, OGD, after constituents disobey his ‘Patience Order’ in an attempts to distribute palliative food items to the people of the Constituency.
Over five hundred persons including women, children, adults, youths, loyalists, and party faithfuls allegedly turned up at the venue for the exercise but were tear gassed by the police deployed to secure the place leading to people running for safety.
Genesis Media Hub gathered that, a woman who was reportedly to be an asthma patient, an APC member ended in a hospital bed after she was tear gassed by the police who came to control the situation while distributing an helmet at the venue.
However, their excitement soon turned to sorrow as the crowd, projected to be more than 1,000 persons – mostly women – became uncontrollable as the scramble to get the palliatives on time became fierce, according to eyewitness accounts of the incident.
The police operatives, who were supposedly stationed at the venue to provide security and control the crowd, goes tough after the Constituents by locking up the main entrance gate, collecting the palliatives from the attendees, mostly from those that carried more than one. This was done according to the directives of the organisers through the guest singer, as he raises alarm and signal to the security operatives through a song which he sang in Yoruba language as “one bag for one person, they should not go with two or more bags of the palliatives, collect it from them, anybody that carried more than one will chop cane”.
As at the time our correspondent still at the program, there was a news from the hospital reportedly to be Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, OOUTH, in Sagamu, where the woman who was rushed to the hospital for treatment was allegedly announced to have come back to lives but as at the end of the event, none of the crowd saw the woman to confirmed the news, as OGD and officials of the program could not be seen as well for official comment about the woman and concerning the police officer that fired the teargas.
