The honourable lawmaker representing Offin, Sagamu 1 State Constituency at the 10th Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Omooba Damilare Mohammed Bello, politically known as Hon. DRE, and five others suspect have been discharged and acquitted of all charges related to the unrest and mayhem crises that occurred in Sagamu Local Government, area of Ogun State, during a nationwide No-cash and fuel scarcity protest which also occur at the area last September, 2023.

The protest, which was sparked by some unknown hoodlums in the the region, resulted in widespread violence, looting, destruction and vandalisation of several commercial banks, the local government Secretariat, government office’s, shops, businesses and many others. Hon. DRE and his co-accused were arrested by Department of State Security (DSS) and the Police reportedly obstructed the DSS investigation by unlawfully going behind Honourable Damilare Bello to search his house without any warrant.

“Immediately DSS were through with their investigations, Police charge us without substance to the information that led to the arrest, and we were charged to court in connections with the incident”, Honourable Bello said.

However, after a thorough investigation and legal proceedings, the court has found no evidence linking them to the crimes. In a ruling delivered today Wednesday, 11th of September, 2024, the court discharged and acquitted Bello and his co-accused of all charges, bringing an end to the lengthy and highly publicized case.

This development were seen as a major victory for Hon. Damilare Mohammed Bello, his family, his Team, and teeming supporters, who have maintained their innocence throughout the ordeal.
