A section of the popular Odi Olowo market in Sabo Sagamu, has been gutted down by fire incident started around 12:00pm midnight of Thursday, January 12th, 2023.

It is learned that several shops, goods and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by the inferno, as the swift intervention of the residents and people living around the area was able to stop the fire from spreading to other parts of the market, Genesis Media House reports.

Genesis Media House recalls that a similar incident occurred in January 2020 at Sabo Market, Sagamu, as the fire incident led to the renovation of the whole market, by the Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun -MFR, led administration.

While addressing reporters, several eye witness said the the causes of the inferno was suspected to be an electric spark, as multiple relatives were working to ascertain the cause of the incident, adding that electric spark may not be ruled out.

It was reported that, during the incident several calls was put across to some government officials for efficient fire service delivery in order to safeguard lives, goods and properties of the people, which didn’t brings positive response as at the time needed.

Meanwhile, a community youth group, Association Of Sabo Sagamu Youth Leaders (ASSYL), have expressed shock over the incident, while urging the government at all levels, dignitaries across the community and relevant stakeholders must as a matter of urgency rise up to the task of assisting the victims to get back to their feet economically as they strive to recover from the effects of the disaster, praying may Almighty God in His infinite mercy provide succour to all the fire outbreak victims.
