EDUCATION: NANS Announces Partnership With SMEDAN On Student’s Development

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced a partnership with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria(SMEDAN) on development of students’ small and medium scale businesses across the country. The NANS delegation, led by the President, Comr. Lucky Emonefe GCNS, paid courtesy visit to the Director General of SMEDAN, Mr. Charles Odii, at the SMEDAN headquarters, Abuja on Thursday morning.

The NANS President, while addressing the SMEDAN management team, seek for a partnership between the organization and the student union, noting “Out of an average of 10 students, 6 of them are entrepreneurs. It is why we have come on their behalf, to find a way to get this Agency to work with NANS and get students to benefit from your many programmes.” he said.

Speaking further, the Senate President of the association, Comr. Babatunde Akinteye, commended the DG for his efforts in carrying youths and women along in his programmes since his appointment. “We have heard of your giant strides in incorporating the youths and women, who form majority of SME owners in Nigeria,  adding that they are here to ensure that every campus in Nigeria feels the impact of this Agency, as this will go a long way in ousting poverty on our campuses and also makes it enjoyable for students to enjoy the dividends of democracy.” he said.

While reacting, Mr. Odii, the SMEDAN DG, congratulated the new executives of NANS and assured them of his office’s commitment to partnership with NANS. He also announced that SMEDAN will organize mentorship and training programmes for students across the 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria, while urging the association to form a synergy with SMEDAN and the Centers of Entrepreneurship Development on campuses to ensure that genuine students benefit from the planned programmes.

Also presence in the NANS delegations team are; the Chairman of Zonal Coordinators Forum, Chief of Staff to the Senate President, National Director of Gender, and many more.
