On September 30, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun called on the FG’s attention to failed portions of the Sagamu-Benin expressway as this section was making travel extremely difficult for all road users.
Recalled that the former President Buhari’s administration awarded the contract for the reconstruction of this road, but for some weird reasons, the reconstruction began at the Benin end of the road. Somehow, the funds released for the execution of the project finished before they got to the Ogun section of the road, and since then it has been abandoned.
Over the weekend, the Governor make an unscheduled stop along the Sagamu-Benin expressway, yet another stretch of Federal Road in Ogun State that has been abandoned by the Federal Government.
The road which was already in deplorable condition was further damaged by the flood from the heavy rainfall of last week.
The Governor confirmed that if the FG does not move contractors to site in a couple of days/weeks, he has sought the permission of the President Bola Tinubu to fully reconstruct the Ogun section of the road.
Just 9 days later, the minister for works, Dave Umahi in company of Ogun Governor, Dapo Abiodun flagged off work on the portions that have failed.

The Governor while assuring Ogun residents of the new development on the road site via his official media handles, said “we are pleased to announce that palliative work will commence on the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Highway. This effort is aimed at addressing the failed portions of the road, ensuring smoother travel for all motorists. We expect this project to be completed by mid-December, and we will also be installing solar lights along the entire 120-kilometre stretch to enhance safety.
We appreciate President Bola Tinubu for his prompt intervention and commitment to alleviating the hardship faced by road users. Our administration, in collaboration with the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, is dedicated to taking swift action to restore this critical infrastructure.
