2027: Amosun Set To Declare Senate Return, Fuels Ogun Political Realignment

In a significant political realignment, former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, is set to formally declare his intention to return to the Senate, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District.
The declaration is scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, which also coincides with his birthday celebrations.
Sources within the senator’s campaign organization confirm that substantial mobilization efforts are already underway, with ₦500,000 disbursed to each ward across the Ogun Central district to galvanize supporters and ensure a large turnout for the event.
Amosun, who served two terms as governor from 2011 to 2019, is seeking a return to the upper legislative chamber under the banner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), though he will remain in the All Progressives Congress (APC) until the formal transition.
The move is part of a coordinated exit plan alongside his preferred governorship aspirant, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Ishola, who is also currently in the APC. Both are expected to formally join the ADC soon to contest the Senate and governorship seats, respectively, in Ogun State.
A close aide to the former governor stated, “The senator is ready to continue his service and impactful representation. Tomorrow’s birthday celebration will be a dual event of thanksgiving and political purpose.”
This development signals an intensification of political activities in Ogun State as the election season approaches, setting the stage for a major contest in the senatorial district.
