RYD 2024: Remo Youth Association Celebrates Youth Day With Summit And Free Medical Outreach For Over 300 People
The Remo Youth Association (RYA), under the dynamic leadership of Comrade Bidemi Solarin, successfully hosted a Youth Summit today, Monday, December 23, 2024, at Sagamu Town Hall. This event, marks part of the celebrations for Remo Youth Day 2024, aimed to empower the local youth and raise awareness about the pressing issue of drug abuse.
In his opening remarks while welcoming the attendees, Comrade Solarin expressed gratitude for their presence and acknowledged the invaluable support from various donors, particularly His Royal Majesty, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo Land, for his commitment to promoting youth development in the region. He emphasized the significance of unity among youth organizations to foster the growth of RYA and the community as a whole.
The theme for this year Remo Youth Day 2024, “The Rising Epidemic Of Drug Abuse; Causes, Consequences, And Solutions,” underscored the urgent need to address drug-related issues affecting the youth.
The summit featured an enlightening lecture by Mrs. Loveth Bamisaye, Supervisor Narcotics at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for the Iperu/Sagamu Division. Her presentation focused on the “Rising Epidemic of Drug Abuse,” discussing the causes, consequences, and potential solutions to this critical issue. She urged parents to take an active role in monitoring their children to mitigate the risk of drug abuse.
Representatives from the War Against Child Abuse and Drug Abuse (WACANDA) echoed her sentiments, highlighting the importance of parental oversight and accountability instead of blaming government efforts. The WACANDA officials also uses that medium to present a gifts for the NDLEA ably received by Mrs. Loveth Bamisaye, as part of materials and support needed to boost the operations of the drug agency. Dr. Adebanjo Adedayo, Rector of the South-Western Nigeria College of Health Technology, also contributed to the discourse, stressing the need for parents to guide their children away from harmful influences.
The event also featured an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing attendees to engage with the speakers on issues related to drug abuse.
In addition to the summit’s educational aspects, a free medical outreach program was conducted by South-Western Nigeria College of Health Technology, located at Sotubo, Sagamu Ogun State, in collaboration with the Remo Youth Association. This initiative benefited over 300 individuals, providing free medications and health consultations to address a variety of health concerns.
An awards ceremony recognized distinguished individuals for their contributions to the community, with honors presented to Rt. Hon. (Otunba) Adewumi Oriyomi Onanuga, Hon. Adekunle O. Soname, Hon. (Omooba) Damilare Mohammed Bello, and Barr. Churchill Oliseh Ebedei for their exemplary service.
Concluding the event, Comr. Adebisi Jolaoso (A1), Chairman of the Planning Committee, delivered a vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to all participants and supporters.
He encouraged the community to prepare for the upcoming Remo Day Youth Night Concert at Gateway Stadium, which promises performances from notable hip-hop artists including T-Famous and 9ice, as well as emerging talents from Remo Land.
The summit was attended by prominent figures and dignitaries, including Hon. Sanni Oluwaseyi, representing the Deputy Chief Whip of the 10th National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga (IJAYA), the Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government; Hon. Afolabi Odulate, ably represented by Hon. Nazir Oluwadamilare Odusote, Comr. Rotr. Oluwagbenga Odumosu, the three local government Coordinator’s of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in Remo Land, some officials of the NDLEA, WACANDA, local government officials, and enthusiastic youth from across Remo Land, making it a memorable occasion aimed at promoting engagement, health, and unity among the youth.

As the event concluded, the atmosphere resonated with a renewed commitment among attendees to collaborate, educate, and empower themselves and their peers against the challenges posed by drug abuse and other societal issues.
