‎Adebutu Defends Leadership Credentials, Unveils 2027 Governance Agenda For Ogun State

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, has firmly dismissed claims questioning his competence and preparedness to govern the state, insisting that his decades-long involvement in politics, business, humanitarian service, and community development have adequately equipped him for leadership.

‎Adebutu made the remarks during a media parley with journalists held in Abeokuta on Monday, where he outlined his vision for Ogun State ahead of the 2027 governorship election and responded to criticisms regarding his background and political aspirations.

‎The event attracted prominent figures within the party, including the Ogun State PDP Chairman, Hon. Abayomi Tella; the party’s Deputy Governorship Candidate, Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo; former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo; and other party leaders and stakeholders.

‎Addressing concerns raised by critics, Adebutu rejected suggestions that his accomplishments are solely tied to the influence and wealth of his father, renowned businessman Kensington Adebutu, stressing that he has independently built successful enterprises, created employment opportunities, and contributed significantly to economic development through investments in agriculture and agro-processing.

‎According to him, being born into a privileged family should not be viewed as a disadvantage, but rather judged by how effectively one utilizes available opportunities for societal advancement.

‎”Unfortunately, many narratives have been created about me and my intentions. Some critics suggest that I merely live on my family’s achievements or that I have built nothing of my own,” Adebutu said.

‎”None of us chooses the family into which we are born. If someone is fortunate enough to come from a successful family, that should not be a source of shame. What truly matters is what we do with the opportunities we are given. I have used my resources to build businesses, create jobs, and contribute to economic development.”

‎The PDP standard-bearer further highlighted his extensive involvement in agriculture, describing himself as one of Nigeria’s leading practitioners of animal husbandry. He noted that his investments in livestock farming and meat-processing ventures have generated employment, strengthened food production, and supported economic growth.

‎He also recalled his humanitarian interventions during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the distribution of livestock and other forms of assistance to vulnerable Nigerians to cushion the harsh economic impact of the crisis.

‎Speaking on governance, Adebutu identified insecurity as the nation’s most pressing challenge and pledged to make the protection of lives and property a top priority if elected governor in 2027.

‎”The foremost challenge facing Nigeria today is insecurity. That is why security occupies the first position on our agenda. We cannot build a prosperous society without ensuring the safety of lives and property,” he stated.

‎He disclosed that he has consistently supported security agencies through the provision of logistics, including fuel supplies and vehicle maintenance, while advocating stronger security infrastructure across Ogun State.

‎On local government administration, Adebutu called for greater autonomy for local councils, arguing that grassroots development has suffered due to excessive control by state authorities.

‎According to him, local governments became less effective when their independence and accountability to the people were weakened through centralized control of local government elections.

‎”The decline began when local government elections became heavily controlled at the state level. As local governments lost their independence and accountability to the people, their effectiveness diminished,” he said.

‎He maintained that sustainable grassroots development would remain elusive unless local governments are empowered to operate independently, transparently, and in the best interests of their communities.

‎Adebutu further unveiled key areas of focus in his proposed administration, including rural infrastructure development, healthcare delivery, education, electricity, and agriculture. He described agriculture as a critical driver of employment generation and economic prosperity for Ogun State.

‎The PDP governorship candidate also advocated comprehensive reforms in the education sector, emphasizing vocational training, entrepreneurship, and digital skills acquisition as essential tools for addressing youth unemployment.

‎He argued that many graduates remain unemployed because of a disconnect between academic curricula and the realities of the modern labour market, stressing the need for a more practical and innovation-driven educational system.

‎As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, Adebutu reaffirmed his commitment to delivering people-centered governance, economic growth, improved security, and sustainable development across Ogun State.
