Adebutu Hosts Makinde, Oyinlola, And Others, Vows To Unseat APC In Ogun By 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, under the leadership of its 2023 governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, has declared its readiness to reclaim the state from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
The party’s resolve was reinforced during a Southwest stakeholders’ meeting held at the Ake Palace Grounds in Abeokuta, which was attended by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, National and State Assembly members, former legislators, and party chieftains from across the region.
In his address, Adebutu dismissed claims that the PDP was in a comatose state, asserting that the party remains united, resilient, and growing in popularity despite what he termed political intimidation by the APC.
“Those writing PDP off are living in denial. This party is alive, strong, and ready,” Adebutu declared. “The people of Ogun are tired of over-taxation, hardship, and misgovernance. 2027 will mark the end of APC rule in this state.”
He urged party members to intensify grassroots mobilization and ensure mass voter registration, describing the Permanent Voter Card as the most potent weapon for reclaiming power through democratic means.
Governor Makinde, who was accompanied by the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin, expressed confidence that the Ogun PDP could replicate the party’s successful resurgence in Oyo State.
“Oyo PDP was once in your position, but today we are in government. Ogun will also triumph,” Makinde said. “The PDP is alive and well, and those who think otherwise will be surprised.”
Former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola echoed the call for unity and focus, emphasizing that internal cohesion and sustained grassroots engagement would be critical to securing victory in 2027.
The gathering also witnessed notable defections into the PDP, including APC members from Ijebu Ode Local Government Area and members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party from Ogun East Senatorial District, led by Wasiu Ajirotutu.
Party leaders described the large turnout and influx of new members as a clear signal of growing public confidence in the PDP’s capacity to reclaim Ogun State and reposition the party across the Southwest ahead of the next general elections.
