In a spirited effort to promote cleanliness and environmental responsibility, the Association of Sabo Sagamu Youth Leaders (ASSYL) took to the streets of Sabo Sagamu on Thursday, January 30th, 2025, declaring war on litter and pollution. The environmental cleaning initiative was officially launched by ASSYL President, Comrade Oluwafemi Osho, who emphasized the significance of cleanliness, stating, “Cleanliness is next to holiness,” and reinforcing the association’s commitment to working alongside the community to enhance their surroundings.

The sanitation exercise commenced at Sabo Sagamu Underbridge, stretching down to Olodo Junction, crossing over from the UBA/Sode Junction, and concluding at Sabo Market Junction. This well-organized effort brought together a diverse group of participants, including local dignitaries such as Hon. Samsondeen Awofeso, Councillor representing Ward 5 in the Sagamu Legislative Council, and Hon. Toyin, who represents Ward 4. They joined executives of ASSYL, members from various youth associations affiliated with ASSYL, and numerous community volunteers.

The environmental sanitation initiative is set to be a continuous effort, with the next scheduled clean-up planned for the second Thursday of February 2025. This initiative reflects a commitment to not only beautifying the neighborhood but also fostering a sense of community responsibility among the youth.

Chairman of the Environmental Committee, Comrade Ayoo, took this opportunity to rally support from other community members and leaders, urging them to contribute to the cause. He highlighted the need for additional environmental tools to facilitate a more efficient and effective cleaning process, calling on well-meaning individuals in Sagamu to assist in this vital initiative.

The ASSYL’s dedication to environmental service showcases the power of youth engagement in community development, setting a positive example for future generations.
