The inaugural Sabo Sagamu Youth Day 2021 Football Cup Competition came to an end yesterday, Thursday, February 5th, 2022, when the final round’s team competed for the first prize.
The finale took place at Muslim High School, Sabo Sagamu with a final match played between the Agura All Stars and Oginni All Stars, while Comr. Segun Dada, a representative of Hon. Segun Shitta open the event with a kick of the ball.
Ex-international U-20 player of the Nigeria national team, Muyideen Oyewole, Hon. Mayowa Osiuga; Former Councillor, Ward 5 SLG, Hon. Tawio Makinde; Councillor, Ward 5 SLG, Comr. Abiodun Oyefeso; Former General Secretary of Sagamu Youth, Comr. Oluwole Aduroja; Acting Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria – Sagamu Branch, Comr. Segun Sikiru; President Sagamu Youth Association and members of the Youth Council attended the final fixture.
Registered Youth associations under the apex body of Association Of Sabo Sagamu Youth Leaders (ASSYL) took part in the football contest organised by the ASSYL leadership under the administration of the able President, Comr. Olusola Bashiru Aina to complement youth development programmes in the community.
The final round started after Atoyo Boys Fc came victorious over the Saobat Fc side in the third place fixture through a walkover winning match.
About 10 minutes into the first half of the final match, Oginni Stars FC unsettled their opponent, Agura All Stars with a goal.
On the 11th minute, the Agura All Stars team, however, came back with an equaliser.
The match ended in a 2 – 1 win in favour of Agura All Stars after the winning team scored the finishing goal to end the match and drop their opponent, Oginni Stars FC to the runners-up (2nd) position.
The winning team, Agura All Stars, went home with a gold trophy. Comr. Segun Dada presented the trophy to the winning team, on behalf of the Ogun State Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Abdul Bashir Oladunjoye (SEGUN SHITTA) representing Sagamu 1 (Offin) State Constituency who is the Special Quest Of The Day.
Th representative of the Deputy Majority Leader, Comr. Segun Dada said:
“In the last couple of weeks, we have seen our youths coming to the field to display great football skills and pour out energy that could have been diverted to vices. Having participated in all activities that culminated into the final round, I have no doubt that the objectives of the tournament have been realised, as we witnessed excitement on the faces of all participants.
During an interview session with our correspondent, Comr. Segun Sikiru, the SYA President while appreciating the organizers (ASSYL) of the competition, said “Inclusion is part of the ‘Greater Sagamu’ agenda of his cabinet and this football competition has further bridged the gap between the Government, Community and the Youths. We are highly elated that the maiden edition has been widely received by young people across the community. The subsequent edition promises to be bigger and more impactful”.
“The tournament aims to equip youth with the core values, skills and knowledge needed to realise their potential as future leaders” and “It is also designed to productively engage and steer them away from crime, substance abuse and other social vices”, the two finalists coaches said respectively at the pre-match interview session.
“I am beyond proud of what the winning team, our team, Agura All Stars have achieved here today. The players show of team spirit and the brilliance positive reinforcement bring the winning to us. It is obvious how talented and well prepare-able we are as a team”, the Agura All Stars team captain said at the post match interview session.
Individual talents such as the highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper and best player of the tournament, as well as gifts for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd position of the competition got recognition and will be duly rewarded at the grand finale of the anniversary which comes up on Saturday, February 26th 2022, by 10:00 a.m at Muslim High School, Sabo Sagamu.
