The apex body of all Remo Indigent students in public tertiary institution, National Association of Remo Students (NARS) has on Friday, July 21st, 2023, condemned the rate of drug abuse in Remo Constituency, and called on Ogun State Government, Royal Father’s, Security Agency, Religious leaders, Institutions & all other government parasite for urgent steps to arrest the concurrent situation.

This was made known by the group through it’s spokesperson, Shittu Waheed Olalekan, a.k.a Miller, while condemning the recent killing of an elderly man in Ipara Remo, by one drug abuser named Erupe on Friday, who cut off the head of the late elderly man with reasons best known to him, due to his excessive intake of an hard drugs substance called Colorado (Collos) and many other drugs substances.

Miller on behalf of the Student’s Association describes the beheading incidents of the late elderly man, as senseless that must be nipped in the bud, which according to him, the perpetrators of the evil act should also be brought to book by the security agency.

Speaking with our newsman at Genesis Media House, Miller stated that young people who frequently use drugs are more likely to face problems such as academic difficulties, health-related issues, poor relationships with peers, and involvement with the juvenile justice system.
He also highlighted the negative consequences of drug abuse, such as violence, rape, suicide, paranoia, poor academic performance, dropping out of school, poor health, financial debt, and wasted resources, while stressing that drug abusers are more likely to be involved in cultism, thuggery, kidnapping, terrorism, racketeering, armed robbery and other negative social vices.

“Addressing drug abuse requires a comprehensive approach that includes prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation services that should be accessible, affordable and culturally sensitive”, Miller said while noting the importance of empowering young people by providing them with high-quality education, skill acquisition opportunities, employment, access to healthcare, and social support systems.

Furthermore, he advised that school curricula should include drug abuse education to enlighten young people and students about the risks of drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking. He recommended that this education should be directed towards students, principals, teachers, counsellors, and school administrators, noting substance abuse has medical, social, economic and psychological consequences on user, family, institutions and on society at large.

In addition, he therefore urged governments, civil society organisations, communities, religious leaders, youth organizations, corporate bodies, professional bodies, and NGOs to work together and create a supportive environment to promote the positive development of our teeming Remo youths. He also advised parents to be involved in their children’s education, and pay attention to their activities, the company they keep, and their internet usage.

In conclusion, Miller on behalf of all executives and members of National Association of Remo Students (NARS) commisserated with the family of the late soul that lost their loved ones as a result of the barbaric behaviour of the drug abuser and prayed Almighty God to accept his souls, forgive his sins and gives him a perfect home in heaven.
