Kwankwaso Declares January 23rd ‘Betrayal Day’ Following Governor Yusuf’s Departure From NNPP

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections, has officially declared January 23 as a “Day of Betrayal” in response to the recent defection of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the party.
The declaration follows Governor Yusuf’s resignation from the NNPP on Friday, signaling his intended shift to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This move has sparked significant political tension in the region.
Speaking to his supporters in Kano, Kwankwaso emphasized the importance of this date, calling for it to be recognized in history as a symbol of betrayal and a breach of trust. He stated, “Today, as the leader of this movement, I declare the 23rd of January as Betrayal Day. We believe this day should be permanently recorded to ensure global awareness of betrayal and the breaking of trust.”
Kwankwaso had previously urged Governor Yusuf to remain loyal to the NNPP, expressing concern that the hard-fought mandate obtained by the party should not be surrendered to political rivals. His remarks reflect the deep sense of disappointment and alarm within the opposition party regarding the governor’s exit.
