Sagamu born entrepreneur, business tycoon and real estate mogul, Omooba Adeniyi Adesola Idowu popularly known as Niyifola, has on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024, began the clearing of the heap of waste in the drainage located in Surulere Street, area of Sagamu, Ogun State, which was filled with solid specks of dirt and stagnant water.

The move by Niyifola followed a report by passer-by, business owners, youths and residents of the area drawing attention to the state of the drainage system in their neighbourhood, stating that it can leads to flood and erosion during heavy downpours of rains, as well as putting many houses and businesses at risk if not well properly manage.

Omooba Idowu thereafter pledge to sponsored and powered the two sides of the drainage system, which began from the gutter of Akogun Base to the end joint gutter of the First Baptist Church in the Surulere area, approximately measured to be a 5ft gutter and a 2 kilometer road drainage.

Omooba Idowu, who is the Chairman of Niyifola Limited; a real estate firm, also encouraged residents to understand how to manage their drainage system, noting that mismanagement of drainage could have negative consequences, including flooding, erosion, sicknesses, and diseases, and might leads to destruction of many houses, shops, and businesses, as well as putting lives at risk as we embark on the rainy season.

While appreciating the kind gesture Niyifola shown in supporting his country home, Surulere, by sponsoring the cleaning and clearing of the drainage system, a resident stated that it is good that they are clearing it; now water will not flood the road like before.

Another resident said the clearing of clogged drains in the Surulere area by Niyifola was commendable, but urged the residents to change their attitude toward indiscriminate dumping of solid waste.

While commending Niyifola towards his giving back to the community gesture, said that the recent drainage clearance was a welcome development, a right decision at a right time, stating it’s good to have cleared the drains before the onset of rains to prevent erosion and floods.

Mrs. Juliana Owolabi, a resident of the Isote neighbourhood of Surulere, while appreciating Niyifola, also uses the medium to call on government officials at all levels of administration for the prompt release of budgetary allocations for sanitation programmes in order to keep the environment sparkling clean.

She said that the budget for waste management should be prepared, presented for approval and released on time so that the planned activities could be carried out as scheduled.

Omooba Idowu, Niyifola, in his remarks, urge all the top dignitaries, all landlords, elders and environmental agency in the community to kindly use their platform to sensitise residents. “We can not be dropping all the blame on the government’s doorsteps when we also have a role to play. The vision for a cleaner, healthier Sagamu and Ogun cannot be compromised. Hence, we appeal that residents join hands with the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun to move Sagamu, Remo and Ogun State forward”, Niyifola charge residents.
