The Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, Daniel Bwala, has described Lagos State as ‘no man’s land’, attributing its cosmopolitan nature to the President’s defeat there in the 2023 presidential election.
Bwala made this statement during an interview on Arise Television, where he was discussing the infrastructural development of the state.
He argued that Lagos’s status as Nigeria’s commercial hub attracts a diverse population from across the country, which influenced the electoral outcome.
“The reason why Lagos is a no man’s land is evident in the last election; President Tinubu did not win Lagos due to its cosmopolitan nature,” Bwala stated.
He elaborated by pointing to the concentration of national wealth and business in the city. “The richest man in Africa is a Northerner, yet his business is not in Kano but in Lagos. Virtually every rich Nigerian has significant business undertakings in Lagos, and the state boasts a full representation of all Nigerian ethnicities.”
“If not for the fact that the majority speak Yoruba, you would wonder if Lagos is a South-West state,” he added.
Bwala concluded by justifying concentrated investment in Lagos, comparing it to global commercial centers. “In every country, where you find the commercial nerve center, you are likely to deploy more infrastructure there to boost the nation’s economy, much like London has more investment than other parts of England.”
