2027 Elections: Electorates Will Determine Tinubu’s Fate, Not Calls For Resignation — Farouk Aliyu

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Farouk Aliyu, has maintained that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has no reason to resign from office, insisting that Nigerians should be allowed to determine his political future through the ballot box in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, Aliyu reacted to recent calls by opposition figures demanding the President’s resignation, describing such demands as a normal and expected responsibility of opposition politics.
According to him, the opposition is simply playing its constitutional role by criticizing the government and calling for leadership changes where it deems necessary.
“The President does not have to resign. Nigerians should decide his fate at the polls,” Aliyu stated. “The work of the opposition is exactly what they are doing, and I believe they are carrying out that role effectively by asking the President to throw in the towel.”
Drawing from his experience as a former opposition member, Aliyu noted that similar demands were made against previous administrations.
“We were once in opposition, and during that period, we also called on former presidents to resign. So, what the opposition is doing today is not unusual. It is part of democratic engagement and political contestation,” he said.
However, he stressed that the ultimate verdict on President Tinubu’s administration rests with the Nigerian electorate rather than political opponents.
“The final decision belongs to the people of this country. They will decide whether the President deserves another mandate or not when the time comes,” Aliyu added.
While acknowledging the economic, security, and other socio-political challenges currently confronting the nation, the APC stalwart expressed confidence in the government’s efforts to address them.
“Yes, there are economic difficulties, security concerns, and several other challenges facing the country. But we are doing our best to ensure that these problems are tackled and do not persist,” he concluded.
