2027 Ogun Guber: APC Chieftain, Otunba Dr. Adebayo Odunowo Seeks Deputy Governorship Position, Held Strategic Meeting In Ijebu-Ode

In a significant political gathering that signals early realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State and Convener of the Orange Progressives Movement (OPM), Otunba (Aare) Dr. Adebayo Odunowo, on January 15, 2026, formally declared his aspiration to become the next Deputy Governor of Ogun State, should the position be zoned to the Ijebu axis.
The well-attended strategic’s meeting, held in Ijebu-Ode, brought together party leaders, elders, women leaders, youths and notable personalities from across Ogun East Senatorial District.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Odunowo welcomed participants and officially unveiled his political ambition, describing himself as a grassroots politician deeply rooted in Ijebu culture and heritage. He emphasized that he hails from a foremost indigenous family of Ijebu-Ode, with a strong family pedigree and longstanding community presence, which, according to him, positions him well to serve effectively at the state executive level.
He urged party members and supporters to take advantage of the ongoing APC membership registration exercise, stressing that party registration and Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) collection remain the most potent tools for securing victory for the APC in 2027. Dr. Odunowo also reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the party and commended President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as bold and progressive reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria for greater economic and infrastructural growth. He pledged to continue mobilizing support for the President’s re-election bid in 2027.
In his goodwill message, Hon. Hakeem Adenuga testified to Dr. Odunowo’s enduring commitment to community development and party growth. He highlighted the numerous interventions of the Orange Progressives Movement (OPM), which include youth empowerment initiatives, widows’ and elderly support schemes, cash grants to small-scale business owners, scholarship awards to students, and consistent financial donations to the APC, all funded personally by Dr. Odunowo without reliance on government appointments, contracts, or public resources.
Hon. Adenuga described Dr. Odunowo as a rare breed of politician driven by service rather than personal gain, noting that leaders of his kind are urgently needed in the corridors of power. He called on party faithful to support him with prayers and loyalty, assuring them that their support would not be in vain.
Adding her voice, Alhaja Abdulahi charged women across Ogun East to rally behind Dr. Odunowo and appealed to APC leaders statewide to endorse him as the party’s Deputy Governorship candidate in 2027, if the position is zoned to the Ijebu axis.
Similarly, Alhaji Kazeem Olusiun described Dr. Odunowo as a seasoned grassroots politician who understands the needs of the people and responds at the right time. He stressed that his humanitarian gestures and contributions to party development are well recognized, adding that the time has come for the Ijebu people to produce the next Deputy Governor of Ogun State, and that Dr. Odunowo remains the most suitable candidate from the axis.
Mrs. Kehinde Modupeola, while expressing deep appreciation, disclosed that she and members of her family are direct beneficiaries of Dr. Odunowo’s humanitarian interventions. She urged party elders and leaders to consider him the best option should the slot be zoned to Ijebu, while calling on women to remain steadfast in their loyalty and support for his movement.
Also speaking, Mr. Segun Saula appealed to Dr. Odunowo to continue his good works for the benefit of the people, while Alhaji Niyi Quadri acknowledged the presence of all attendees and reaffirmed why Dr. Odunowo stands out as the most credible option for the Deputy Governorship seat from the Ijebu axis.
In her closing remarks, Alhaja Abdulahi thanked Dr. Odunowo for hosting the meeting and appreciated the stakeholders for their attendance and contributions.
The meeting recorded a strong turnout of party elders, leaders, women groups, youth representatives and notable personalities from across Ogun East, signaling growing grassroots momentum around Dr. Odunowo’s Deputy Governorship ambition as the 2027 political season gradually takes shape.
