Aide To Ondo Senator Ipinsagba Resigns Over Insufficient N20,000 Monthly Salary

Tunbosun Awe, an aide to Senator Olajide Ipinsagba, who represents the Ondo North Senatorial District, has officially resigned due to his monthly salary of N20,000, which he claims is significantly below the national minimum wage of N70,000.
Awe, who held the position of ward liaison officer for Isowopo Ward II in Akoko North East Local Government Area, announced his resignation in a letter released on Wednesday. In the letter, he expressed that his compensation no longer reflects the prevailing economic realities of the country.
“This resignation is prompted by the N20,000 monthly salary I receive, which starkly contrasts with the national minimum wage of N70,000 and the current economic landscape,” Mr. Awe stated.
He revealed that he had previously attempted to meet with Senator Ipinsagba multiple times to discuss a possible salary increase, but his requests were unmet. Awe highlighted their long professional history, noting that he began working with the senator in 2006 when he served as the secretary of Ipinsagba’s campaign group during his initial senatorial bid.
Reflecting on their partnership, Awe lamented, “It is disheartening to realize that N20,000 is the same amount you offered me as your personal assistant back in 2007.”

He further reminisced about their connection, stating, “Destiny brought us together in 2006 when your senatorial ambition was realized under the banner ‘Concept 2007,’ while I was entrusted with the role of secretary for your campaign structure in Ondo North Senatorial District.”
Awe also mentioned previous roles he held alongside Ipinsagba when the senator was appointed as Special Assistant to the Government on Industrialisation during the term of the late former Governor Olusegun Agagu.
Despite his decision to resign, Mr. Awe extended his gratitude to Senator Ipinsagba for the opportunities he was given throughout his tenure.
