Governor Abiodun Unveils Renovated Olumo Rock Tourism Complex, Offers Free Entry For Two Months

In a significant move to boost tourism and cultural appreciation in Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun officially launched the newly renovated Olumo Rock Tourist Centre in Abeokuta on Thursday. To commemorate the occasion, he announced that the popular site will offer free entry to the public until the end of September 2025.
During the commissioning ceremony, Governor Abiodun emphasized that the initiative aims to encourage residents and visitors alike to engage with the state’s rich cultural heritage and exploit its tourism potential.
The renovated complex features a state-of-the-art galleria showcasing artworks of notable Nigerians, a gazebo, a restaurant serving both local and continental cuisine, shops specializing in adire fabrics, and a backup generator for powering newly installed elevators and other essential facilities.
”Olumo Rock is more than just a natural formation; it is a sanctuary of strength, a symbol of refuge, and an integral part of our identity,” the governor remarked. He noted that the rock has historically been a source of safety and pride for the Egba people during tumultuous times.

”Revitalizing this sacred site transcends mere infrastructural improvements; it’s about rekindling memories, fostering cultural pride, and reconnecting with our roots. We understand that well-developed tourism can generate employment, attract investments, and promote cultural exchange while serving as a catalyst for community development,” he stated.
Further reinforcing his administration’s commitment to tourism, Governor Abiodun declared it a cornerstone of the ISEYA development agenda and highlighted its potential to stimulate the local economy, generate jobs, and increase state revenue.
He invited tourists from far and wide to explore Ogun State’s diverse attractions, emphasizing that the Olumo Rock Tourism Complex has been transformed into a modern heritage destination equipped with a world-class arts gallery and dining facilities.
”This renovation has turned Olumo Rock from a historic site into a dynamic tourism hub. With designated areas for artisans, vendors, and creatives, this complex is poised to drive local commerce, empower youth, and nurture a flourishing cultural economy,” he added.
Governor Abiodun also aimed to create tourist sites throughout the state, assuring attendees that a reputable organization would be engaged for the complex’s efficient management and upkeep.
The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi, welcomed guests to the event, lauding the governor’s efforts in rejuvenating the tourist centre, which is expected to attract more visitors.
Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, highlighted the historical significance of Olumo Rock, recalling its role as a military observation point and sanctuary for the Egba people. He acknowledged the spiritual and recreational value of the site and expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for its refurbishment.
Chief (Mrs) Nike Okundaye, CEO of Nike Arts Gallery, expressed confidence that the newly renovated complex would significantly increase tourism traffic. She promised a rich array of services for both local and international tourists, stating, “We aim to attract art enthusiasts from around the world to celebrate our culture and heritage. Our collaboration will create jobs and introduce innovative ideas to enhance local income potential. In two years, this location will be the premier tourist destination in Nigeria.”
