‎Abiodun Commissions Wole Soyinka Train Station Road, Unveils Plan To Inaugurate 20 More Projects As Ogun Marks 50 Years

‎Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday commissioned the newly reconstructed Laderin–Prof. Wole Soyinka Train Station Road in Abeokuta, while announcing plans to inaugurate 20 additional roads across the state as part of activities marking Ogun State’s 50th anniversary.

‎Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Abiodun revealed that work is progressing steadily on the Sagamu Interchange–Papalanto–Opele Road, a 100-kilometre highway he described as a major east–west economic connector critical to the state’s development.

‎According to the governor, the road, when completed, will serve as an alternative route for motorists, eliminating the need to pass through Abeokuta to access other parts of the country, while also opening up the corridor to increased commercial and industrial activities.

‎“Let me share with you the biggest secret of our reconstruction efforts at the moment — the Ogun East–West Connector,” Abiodun said. “This road stretches from the Sagamu Interchange through Papalanto to Opele, covering about 100 kilometres. We have completely shut it down for reconstruction, and as we speak, about 25 kilometres out of the 40 kilometres between Sagamu Interchange and Papalanto have been reconstructed using reinforced concrete.”

‎He added that upon completion, trucks and vehicles transporting goods from Ota, Ifo and Ewekoro would no longer need to use the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway, as they would be able to connect directly to Papalanto and access the expressway with ease.

‎Governor Abiodun described the Prof. Wole Soyinka Train Station as a strategic infrastructure linking Ogun State to Lagos, Oyo State and the northern part of the country. He noted that the presence of five train stations in the state underscores Ogun’s importance to Nigeria’s economic and logistics ecosystem.

‎The governor explained that although access roads were not provided during the initial construction of the rail line, his administration decided to rehabilitate the Laderin road in line with its multimodal transportation policy. He disclosed that between 100,000 and 150,000 passengers, including investors, commute daily between Ogun, Oyo and Lagos states.

‎Abiodun further stated that the train station road is part of over 1,600 kilometres of roads constructed across the state under his administration. He added that one lane of the Atan–Lusada–Agbara Road has been completed, while work has commenced on the second lane.

‎Earlier, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Lateef Yusuf, said the three-kilometre road would provide vital access to the MKO Abiola Trade Fair Complex, Laderin, Lukosi and surrounding communities, thereby easing movement and boosting commercial activities.

‎Also speaking, a former member of the House of Representatives and the Osi of Egbaland, Chief Bode Mustapha, recalled the deplorable state of the road in the past, noting that its reconstruction, alongside other infrastructure projects, has significantly transformed Ogun Central Senatorial District and Abeokuta under the Abiodun administration.

‎Similarly, the Chairman of the Articulate Motorcycle Owners Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) in Ogun State, Alhaji Taofeek Sokoya, described the road as previously impassable, saying transporters avoided it due to its poor condition. He commended Governor Abiodun for rehabilitating the road and improving the ease of movement for residents and transport operators.
