Aftermath Suspension, Contractor Formally Complies With Ogun Standards For Daniel’s Road Project

In a pivotal development regarding the construction of the Paddy Arikawe Igbimo Road in Sagamu, Minim and Tonye, the contractor engaged for the project proposed by Ogun East Senator Gbenga Daniel, has formally accepted the engineering standards set forth by the Ogun State Ministry of Works. This decision follows a directive issued in a letter dated September 22, 2025.
The acceptance was communicated by the contractor’s Director, Abimbola Ayodeji, in a letter addressed to the Commissioner for Works & Infrastructure, Mr. Ade Akinsanya, on September 26, 2025. In the correspondence, the contractor confirmed that the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA), the project’s executing agency, had instructed them to commence drainage works aligned with the specifications outlined by the Ogun Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
To ensure conformity with existing infrastructure, the contractor stated that the drainage system will feature 600mm x 600mm reinforced concrete drains made with Grade 25 concrete.
Earlier, the Ogun State government had halted work on the project until proper regulatory approvals were secured, emphasizing adherence to due process for state roads. Upon reviewing the contractor’s original drawings, officials noted discrepancies in the drainage and concrete pavement design, which did not meet the Federal Ministry of Works (FMW) standards.
Consequently, the government issued a letter on September 22, 2025, outlining necessary corrections and instructing the contractor to resubmit the revised plans for approval. The government welcomed the contractor’s subsequent commitment to follow through with the mandated corrections and seek official approval.
Key adjustments requested from the contractor included using Grade 20 concrete for binding, a minimum of Grade 25 for the base, walks, and deck, with a required tensile strength of 460 N/mm². The proposed 150mm thick concrete pavement of Grade 20 was also revised to recommend a 220mm thickness of at least Grade 35, ideally Grade 40 concrete, with a preferred stone base thickness of 200mm.
Additionally, the government requested comprehensive project layouts, elevation and grades, details on concrete pavement and reinforcement at joints, as well as a list of engineering materials and testing protocols to assure quality. The designs must also incorporate relevant design criteria codes.
With the contractor’s compliance and commitment to the specifications laid out by the Ogun State government, the project is poised to resume promptly, pending final approval from the Ministry of Works.
