“The Great Sagamu Run” organized by the Sagamu Sport Samaritans, which was held on Saturday, August 6th, 2022. The 15.2km distance race started at the front of Akarigbo Palace Arcade, and went all the way to Remo Secondary School (RSS) Roundabout, to the turning point at Remo Divisional High School U-turn, along the Akarigbo Road – up to the finishing point at Akarigbo Palace Arcade, Sagamu.
“It’s common knowledge that professional athletes earn extraordinary incomes. What is less known or understood is how the advent of these riches has seeped into the conscious and unconscious ways in which our society now parents children”
As a common saying in sport which is applicable to a country whose aim is to have her sport men and women excelling is to “catch them young”. This actually caught the attention of Remo Youth Association during the Marathon race when a young girl and boy participated at the Marathon relay.
Genesis Media House reported that over Fifty (50) pupils of secondary schools in Remo Land participated in the Marathon race but Doris Odeyemi 5 years old and Qudus Makinde 7 years stole the show as they started the Marathon Race of 15.2km and ended it with other adult while they proved many spectators wrong of their resilience.
Comrade Adetayo; RYA Sport director was amazed at the beginning of the race when he saw the kid athletes on the starting line. “I want to believe these young kids will try their best but might not have the strength to finish up”; Adetayo reacted.
“I want to appeal to all stakeholders not limited to government alone to always motivate and encourage our young ones. To have the best in sports, we must always catch them young “- Yaya Onagbesan.
Cash Prizes were presented to Qudus Makinde (7 years old) and Doris Odeyemi(5 years) as the youngest male and female athletes for participating and completing the marathon race by Remo Youth Association.
Youth leaders present including Comr. Osho, Comr. Aina (Sabo Youth President), Comr. Olamide Saliu (Genesis), Comr. Adeyiga- Oluwaseyi (Lando), Comr. Oluwafemi Osho and Comr. Olayinka Ayanyuga.
