Mob Justice In Sagamu: Man Set Ablaze By Unknown Youths

A disturbing incident of mob justice has occurred in Sagamu, Ogun State on May 9th, 2025, where a yet-to-be-identified man was set on fire by unknown local youths along Akarigbo Road, Ijoku.
Eyewitnesses at the scene recounted to Genesis Media Hub that the man was chased to the location by a group of young individuals yelling “thief, thief.” Conflicting accounts emerged regarding the alleged crime, with some claiming he stole a motorcycle, others a tricycle, and some even suggesting it was fuel. The precise reason for the pursuit remained unclear at the time of this report.

Another eyewitness detailed the horrific scene, stating that the mob beat the man before placing several tires on him, dousing him with fuel, and setting him alight.
According to a further eyewitness account, a police patrol team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Sakora Police Division arrived at the scene and extinguished the flames. They subsequently removed the charred remains of the man’s body.

When questioned about the victim’s condition, the eyewitness stated they were unsure if he was alive or dead but confirmed that the security agency had taken custody of the body.

In a separate incident, Genesis Media Hub also received reports of another suspect apprehended in the Araromi area of Sagamu the previous day. This individual was reportedly caught by passersby while stealing household items from a residence. Information regarding the suspect’s current whereabouts remains unknown, though sources indicate he has been handed over to law enforcement for further investigation.
