Ikorodu High Court Orders International DNA Tests To Resolve Paternity Dispute Of Late Singer Mohbad’s Son

In a significant ruling, the Ikorodu High Court in Lagos State has mandated that three separate DNA tests be conducted overseas to ascertain the paternity of Liam, the son of the late Nigerian artist Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as Mohbad.
This judicial decision comes amid ongoing legal disputes between Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, and the singer’s widow, Wunmi, regarding the child’s biological lineage. Reports from Eyes Of Lagos indicate that these hearings have garnered substantial public interest following the singer’s untimely death on September 27, 2023, which has sparked national outrage and scrutiny.
During a resumed hearing on February 3, Barrister Oladayo Ogungbe, representing Joseph Aloba, informed the court that both parties were instructed to propose three foreign medical facilities capable of conducting tissue-based DNA tests. The legal teams for Joseph Aloba and Wunmi are tasked with submitting their preferred international testing centers, from which the court will select one laboratory from each party’s recommendations, along with a third independent facility. This approach ensures a total of three DNA tests will be performed.
Ogungbe emphasized that all selected laboratories must have the technical expertise to conduct tissue-based DNA analysis, as opposed to the more conventional cheek-swab tests.
Joseph Aloba has firmly stated that the remains of his late son will not be interred until the paternity of Liam is definitively established through these DNA tests.
The court has adjourned the case until February 10 for further proceedings, leaving many attentive to the outcome of this high-profile matter.
