The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that Nigerians outside the APC now constitute a political minority, while extending what he termed a “last opportunity” for opposition members to join the ruling party.
Yilwatda made the pronouncement on Tuesday in Jos, Plateau State capital, during the high-profile defection ceremony of Governor Caleb Mutfwang to the APC—a political development that significantly strengthens the party’s dominance in the state.
Addressing party supporters and political stakeholders at the event, the APC chairman characterized the ruling party as the overwhelming political force across Plateau State, claiming near-total grassroots support.
’Others Are Minorities’
According to Yilwatda, the APC has secured commanding support throughout the state’s wards, effectively relegating other political parties to minority status.
”Every other person who is not in APC is a minority. From all the wards in Plateau, everybody is in APC,” he declared.
The APC chairman proceeded to appeal to politicians and supporters still aligned with opposition parties to reconsider their positions, positioning the APC as a safe haven amid what he described as the deteriorating state of opposition platforms.
”Let me invite the remaining minorities who are left in other political parties. I want to appeal to you for your goodness. I want to give you the last opportunity,” Yilwatda stated.
He further urged opposition members to take advantage of the party’s ongoing online registration exercise, warning that rival political parties were facing existential challenges.
”I will give the chance that we are doing our online registration, and the window is open. We are throwing a lifeline. Come to our party and rescue yourselves because other political parties are drowning,” the APC chairman added.
The remarks come against the backdrop of intensifying political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with defections continuing to alter the balance of power across multiple states nationwide.
Governor Mutfwang’s formal entry into the APC marks a significant political shift in Plateau State and underscores the ruling party’s expanding influence in regions previously considered competitive political terrain.
