National Assembly Suspends Legislative Sessions In Honor Of Late President Muhammadu Buhari

The National Assembly has officially suspended all legislative activities in both the Senate and the House of Representatives until Tuesday, July 22, 2025. This decision was announced on Monday by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana.
The temporary cessation of plenary sessions has been implemented to honor the memory of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London, United Kingdom.
“In honor of his legacy and service to the nation, I am directed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to inform all members of the National Assembly and the general public that all legislative activities are suspended during this time,” Ogunlana stated.
Furthermore, all members are encouraged to adjust their schedules to fully participate in the burial arrangements for the late President.

The leadership of both legislative chambers extended their deepest condolences to the government and people of Nigeria, as well as to the residents of Katsina State, his wife Aisha, his children, and the entire Buhari family.
“President Muhammadu Buhari will be remembered for his commitment to Nigeria’s unity and his integrity,” Ogunlana added.
Buhari, who hailed from Daura in Katsina State, served as Nigeria’s military head of state from January 1984 to August 1985 before being elected as the country’s president from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023.
