Massive Response: Over 400,000 Applicants Vie For 50,000 Police Constable Posts

The Police Service Commission (PSC) and Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have announced a two-week extension for the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 constables, with the application portal now set to close on February 8, 2026, instead of the initially scheduled date.
The application window, which opened on December 15, 2025, has been prolonged to address significant regional disparities in participation across the country.
This was disclosed in a statement issued to journalists on Monday in Abuja by Torty Njoku Kalu, Head of Protocols and Public Affairs at the Police Service Commission.
According to Kalu, the decision followed a comprehensive review of the recruitment process, which revealed that while over 400,000 applications have been received, there are notable imbalances in state-by-state participation.
The review showed that while states such as Adamawa, Benue, and Kaduna have recorded high application numbers, others including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Anambra have significantly lower submission rates.
”The extension aims to ensure equitable representation nationwide,” Kalu stated, emphasizing the commission’s commitment to fair geographical distribution in the recruitment exercise.
All eligible Nigerians, particularly those from states with fewer applications, are strongly encouraged to apply through the official portal at www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng before the new deadline.
The commission has called on state governments, local government councils, sociocultural organizations, religious bodies, community leaders, and other stakeholders to intensify mobilization and sensitization efforts within their jurisdictions to encourage eligible citizens to participate in the recruitment process.
The PSC and NPF reaffirmed their commitment to conducting a fair, transparent, and inclusive recruitment exercise that reflects Nigeria’s diversity and ensures equitable representation across all states of the federation.
