Nigerian Army Reaffirms Commitment To Professionalism, And Human Rights Protection

The Nigerian Army has restated its unwavering commitment to professionalism, discipline, and the protection of human rights in the conduct of its security operations across Niger State.
This assurance was given by the Commander, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Major General Peter Malla, during the 2025 West African Social Activities (WASA), jointly organised by TRADOC and the 31 Artillery Brigade at the Minna Military Cantonment Parade Ground.
Addressing officers, soldiers, and invited guests at the event, Major General Malla emphasised that personnel of TRADOC and the 31 Artillery Brigade would continue to discharge their duties with the highest standards of professionalism, while safeguarding lives and property and respecting fundamental human rights.
He described the 2025 training and operational year as successful, attributing the achievements recorded by the troops to dedication, discipline, and the cooperation of host communities. According to him, a strong and mutually respectful relationship between the military and civilians remains vital to the attainment of sustainable peace and security.
The annual WASA celebration, a long-standing tradition of the Nigerian Army, provided an avenue for relaxation, bonding, and cultural integration after months of intensive training and security operations. The 31 Artillery Brigade Parade Ground came alive with vibrant cultural displays, traditional music, and activities that showcased unity and camaraderie within the military community.
For the Niger State Government, the sustenance of the WASA tradition was described as a significant morale booster for troops and a key platform for strengthening civil-military relations.
Highlights of the event included colourful cultural performances, a tug-of-war competition, presentation of awards to outstanding personnel, and other symbolic activities promoting unity within the barracks community. The ceremony also featured the traditional beating of the retreat, formally marking the end of the 2025 training and operational year.
