The Federal Government of Nigeria has confidently announced that citizens will soon benefit from a reliable 24-hour electricity supply.
During the inauguration of two new blocks housing five training workshops and a 104-room hostel at the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) in Abuja, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu expressed optimism regarding this development, stating, “In no time, we are going to witness a country where there is 24/7 uninterrupted power supply. This is possible, and we have certainly seen the signs.”
Adelabu highlighted that the government’s ongoing initiatives are already producing tangible results, with Nigeria achieving unprecedented levels of power generation and transmission in its history. He described this achievement as a significant milestone for both the institute and the broader power sector, reaffirming that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is committed to translating vision into action.
Further emphasizing the importance of electricity, Adelabu noted that the government is focused on enhancing power access for universities, teaching hospitals, primary health centers, public institutions, and communities. He asserted that a stable power supply is crucial for the growth of key sectors, including education, health, and aviation.
The new facilities at NAPTIN are designed to cultivate a skilled workforce capable of navigating the evolving energy landscape. The Minister indicated that these training centers and accommodations will empower young Nigerians with modern tools and knowledge essential for fostering innovation and creating jobs.
NAPTIN Director-General Ahmed Nagode shared that the institute is exploring partnerships to implement the Next Generation Rescue Programme, aimed at training and empowering the next generation of Nigerian leaders. He lauded the European Union (EU) and the French Government, through Agence Française de Développement (AFD), for their funding and technical support that contributed to the establishment of these facilities, which he believes lay the groundwork for a brighter future in the power sector.
