Ogun State Authorities Deny Social Media Reports On Suspension Of Ijebu Traditional Chiefs

The Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in collaboration with the Ijebu Ode Local Government, has officially refuted viral social media reports alleging the suspension of three prominent traditional chiefs in Ijebu land from the Council of Chiefs.
In a joint statement released in Abeokuta, the authorities condemned the publication as entirely false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to sow discord and create unrest within Ijebu land.
The report had specifically named the Kakanfo of Ijebu land, Chief Abimbola Okenla; the Lapoekun of Ijebu land, Chief Tunde Odulaja; and the Madasa of Ijebu land, Chief Lekan Oshifeso.
The Ministry and the local government categorically clarified that neither the Ogun State Government nor any recognized traditional institution has approved or carried out the suspension of the mentioned chiefs.
They emphasized that chieftaincy matters are strictly governed by established laws, customs, and due process—none of which have been invoked against the named titleholders.
Labeling the report as the handiwork of mischief-makers, the statement urged the public to disregard the false information and refrain from sharing unverified content that could fuel confusion or destabilize traditional institutions.
Residents were further advised to seek accurate information only through official government communication channels regarding issues of traditional leadership and chieftaincy affairs.
The joint statement was signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, and the Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government, Dare Alebiosu.
