Oba (Dr.) Ifarotimi Adifagbola Balogun, the Oba Ìsèse of Ogun State and Chairman of the Ìsèse Kingdom of Truth Association of Nigeria, has called on Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun to consider traditionalists for positions in the upcoming local government elections in the state.
This advocacy follows allegations from Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) President, Professor Ishaq Akintola, who accused the state government of favoring Christians in the allocation of chairmanship and councilorship roles.

Dr. Adifagbola Balogun emphasized the vital role of traditionalists as foundational pillars of governance, particularly in South-West Nigeria. He expressed concerns that their significance is being overlooked amid political maneuvering, which he believes threatens their standing in the community.
“Traditionalists are not just ceremonial figures; they play an essential role in political leadership at both ethnic and sub-ethnic levels,” he stated. “It’s crucial that they are duly represented in political positions, as we should not be marginalized in society.”
The Oba highlighted the interconnectedness of traditional leadership and political systems, asserting that leaders often seek the counsel of traditionalists during times of political distress. “Traditionalists are integral to our indigenous governing structures, and it is high time we were considered for political roles,” he remarked.
Balogun also urged Governor Abiodun to reconsider his candidates for the local government elections, noting that the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) still allows for changes. He urged the governor to ensure that traditionalists are appointed to leadership positions, especially in the upcoming elections for chairmanship and councilorship roles.
