‎Security Alert: Governor Makinde Imposes Curfew In 10 Oyo LGAs Over Rising Security Concerns Around Old Oyo National Park

‎Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced a temporary curfew across ten local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park as part of intensified efforts to address growing security challenges within the region.

‎The decision follows mounting concerns over criminal activities reportedly linked to the park and its surrounding communities. Security reports have identified the area as a major concern in recent weeks, particularly following the abduction of dozens of students and teachers in parts of the state.

‎According to available information, no fewer than 39 students and seven teachers were kidnapped last month in communities within Oriire Local Government Area. Reports indicate that security agencies have been actively working to secure the release of the victims and restore normalcy to the affected areas.

‎The curfew was officially announced on Tuesday through a statement issued by the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde. The statement was made public through the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju.

‎Under the directive, a 16-hour curfew will be enforced daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., commencing on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. The restriction is expected to remain in force for an initial period of 48 hours, subject to further review by the state government based on prevailing security assessments.

‎Governor Makinde explained that the measure is aimed at strengthening security operations, safeguarding lives and property, and supporting ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat criminal elements operating within and around the Old Oyo National Park axis.

‎The local government areas affected by the curfew include:

· ‎Oriire Local Government Area (Headquarters: Ikoyi-Ile)

· ‎Orelope Local Government Area (Headquarters: Igboho)

· ‎Irepo Local Government Area (Headquarters: Kisi)

· ‎Saki West Local Government Area (Headquarters: Saki)

· ‎Saki East Local Government Area (Headquarters: Ago-Amodu)

· ‎Atisbo Local Government Area (Headquarters: Tede/Ago-Are)

· ‎Itesiwaju Local Government Area (Headquarters: Otu)

· ‎Iseyin Local Government Area (Headquarters: Iseyin)

· ‎Olorunsogo Local Government Area (Headquarters: Igbeti)

· ‎Atiba Local Government Area (Headquarters: Offa-Meta, Oyo)

‎Residents of the affected areas have been urged to comply fully with the directive and cooperate with security personnel as the government intensifies efforts to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.

‎The Oyo State Government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting residents and pledged continued collaboration with security agencies to tackle insecurity and prevent further threats across the state.
