Ogun NYCN Holds Strategic Quarterly Meeting In Sagamu, Strengthens Commitment To Grassroots Youth Development

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Sagamu Branch, under the leadership of its Coordinator, Comrade Yusuf Adebayo, on Thursday, June 25th, 2026, hosted the NYCN Ogun State Management Meeting (Q2) at the Late Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga (Ijaya) Town Hall in Sagamu, bringing together youth leaders, stakeholders and security representatives to deliberate on policies and initiatives aimed at advancing youth development across Ogun State.
The strategic quarterly meeting served as a platform for meaningful engagement, policy formulation and collective decision-making, with participants reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the Council’s structures while promoting sustainable youth empowerment and grassroots development throughout the state.
The gathering attracted the State Executive Council, Heads of Affiliated Organisations, Local Government Coordinators, State Directors and other critical stakeholders, who extensively discussed organisational growth, youth empowerment, employment opportunities, skills acquisition, security and community-driven development initiatives.
In his welcome address, the Coordinator of NYCN Sagamu Branch, Comrade Yusuf Adebayo, warmly received the Ogun State NYCN Chairman, Comrade Akolawole Shoremi, members of the state executive and other participants. He used the opportunity to formally appeal for the fulfilment of the Sagamu Local Government’s promise to provide office accommodation for the branch, stressing that a functional secretariat remains essential for effective service delivery and smooth administration.
He also highlighted pressing challenges confronting young people, including unemployment, inadequate opportunities for skills acquisition, limited empowerment programmes and growing security concerns. He called for stronger collaboration among government institutions, stakeholders and youth organisations to develop lasting solutions capable of improving the welfare and future of young people across Ogun State.
Responding to the concerns, the Ogun State NYCN Chairman, Comrade Akolawole Shoremi, assured members that the Council would immediately engage the Sagamu Local Government Chairman, Ogbeni Afolabi Odulate, to facilitate the provision of the promised office space for the Sagamu Branch Secretariat.
He further disclosed that the Council has begun developing strategic frameworks for the mobilisation and proper structuring of the newly approved community and street youth platforms, describing the initiative as a significant step towards expanding grassroots participation, strengthening youth leadership and promoting inclusive development across the state.
Comrade Shoremi also used the meeting to officially clarify recent developments affecting the National Youth Council of Nigeria. He informed members that the earlier restrictions placed on the Council’s national leadership, which prevented branches from conducting local elections, have been lifted. According to him, all branches are now fully authorised to commence the process of rebuilding and strengthening grassroots youth structures within local government areas, communities and streets across Ogun State.
The meeting featured interactive sessions, constructive deliberations and extensive discussions on youth-focused policies, organisational reforms and collaborative strategies designed to foster community growth, enhance security partnerships and improve opportunities for young people.
Among the dignitaries and stakeholders in attendance were Prince Adeleke Adebajo, IMC NYCN and NYCN South-West Chairman; Comrade Akolawole Shoremi, Ogun State NYCN Chairman; Comrade Dotun Opaleye, Ogun State NYCN General Secretary; Comrade Kehinde Adebayo (Body), Member of the Sagamu NYCN Board of Trustees (BOT); Coordinators of all NYCN Local Government Branches across Ogun State; representatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Scouts Association and other security agencies; representatives of faith-based youth organisations; as well as officials of the Sagamu Local Government Council.
The successful Q2 Management Meeting further underscored the Ogun State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria’s determination to deepen grassroots engagement, strengthen institutional collaboration and champion programmes that will create greater opportunities and sustainable development for young people across the state.
