Otunba Nurudeen Aina Alowonle Takes Legal Action Against Otunba Taofeek Sokoya (Danku) Over Ogun AMORAN Leadership Dispute

The leadership crisis rocking the Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Ogun State (AMORAN) has escalated into a legal battle as Otunba Nurudeen Aina, also known as Alowonle, asserts his claim as the rightful Chairman, challenging the legitimacy of Otunba Taofeek Sokoya, popularly known as Danku, as the current Chairman of AMORAN.

Alowonle contends that he was duly elected, completed his first term, and received overwhelming majority support to serve a second term. In a suit filed at the National Industrial Court in Ibadan, he alleges that his former Personal Assistant, Otunba Taofeek Sokoya, also known as Danku, “double-crossed” him by declaring himself the substantive Chairman.

The conflict stems from Alowonle’s temporary leave of absence, which he states was properly applied for between August 5, 2024, and December 4, 2024. In his legal complaint, he seeks a court declaration that Sokoya is not entitled to serve as Acting Chairman in his absence, given that Sokoya was merely appointed as his Public Relations Officer (P.R.O).

Alowonle argues that he was on leave to contest the chairmanship for Shagamu Local Government Area, asserting that there was no legitimate vacancy, in line with Section 16(a) & (b) of the association’s regulations. He requests that the court nullify Sokoya’s swearing-in as Chairman, revert Sokoya to his previous position as P.R.O, and declare the swearing-in process as an unlawful imposition.

Furthermore, Alowonle is seeking a declaratory order to prevent Sokoya from continuing to present himself as the Chairman of the Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Ogun State (AMORAN).

Alowonle’s suit before the National Industrial Court in Ibadan seeks several declarations, including:

1. Declaration that Taofeek Sokoya is ineligible to serve as Acting Chairman.

2. Nullification of Sokoya’s swearing-in as Chairman due to lack of vacancy.

3. Reinstatement of Sokoya as Vice Chairman.

4. Declaration that the swearing-in of Sokoya amounts to an imposition, to be set aside.

5. Injunction to restrain Sokoya from claiming the title of Chairman.

This legal confrontation highlights the ongoing struggles within AMORAN and aims to resolve the leadership impasse affecting its members.

The outcome of this legal battle will determine the legitimate leader of AMORAN in Ogun State.
