Awujale Stool: 35-Year-Old Prince Akeem Bashorun Declares Interest In Ijebu’s Top Traditional Race

In a significant announcement that may herald a new chapter in Ijebu history, Prince Akeem Bashorun, 35, from the Bubiade Royal House, has officially declared his intention to compete for the esteemed Awujale stool of Ijebu Land. This declaration occurred on October 5th, 2025, at his family residence, surrounded by members of the Bubiade Royal House.
Mirroring the ascent of the late Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who took the throne at the young age of 25, Prince Akeem underscored the historical significance of his family’s lineage and asserted that the Bubiade Royal House is next in line for this revered position.
During his address, he articulated his vision for the future, which includes:
1. Fostering peace, unity, and understanding among the Ijebu people.
2. Promoting youth empowerment through education, skills development, sports, and cultural initiatives.
3. Strengthening agricultural practices and local enterprises, particularly in fish farming, gari processing, and agro-industry.
4. Advocating for essential infrastructural development throughout Ijebu Land.
5. Reiterating the long-held aspiration for the creation of Ijebu State, a dream cherished by past generations.
In closing, Prince Akeem called on all princes and princesses of the Bubiade Royal House, as well as the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, to unite in support of his candidacy as he aspires to ascend the Awujale throne.
