A viral video which was shared to Genesis Media Hub on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024, revealed how students were sleeping, abandoned and stranded at the premises of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) located in Abeokuta, the capital city of Ogun State, as they battled to register for Direct Entry into University’s institution in Ogun State.
In the video, the students were seen to had underwent tough times following the JAMB insistence on physical registration making it compulsory for every candidate to apply manually for registration using their biometrics at the permanent testing centre in every state nationwide.
Information gathered that the JAMB Direct Entry registration allows the students who have a Diploma in any recognised higher institution of learning to seek admission directory to the 200 level or 300 level of their desired course in any university of their choice without sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
A student who narrated the hardship story to us said a lot of appeal have been sent to the JAMB officials and the Ogun Ministry of Education demanding that JAMB treat every student better and make the process easier but they have continued to turn a deaf ear. Why do we have to struggle for everything in this country?” the student wondered.
Another student said the process was a total failure and a big shame to the educational level of Ogun State if students because of registering for Direct Entry are sleeping, stranded and abandoned outside like this because they want to register, i can say to you that the Ogun JAMB services performance are below average,” the voice said.
“This happened yesterday and it has been the same situation for the past 3 weeks making students to travel up & and down to Ogun State because of the registration. This is unpatriotic to Nigerian students”, another student lamented.
Meanwhile, the stranded students uses the medium to call on the State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, and the Security officers in the State, to address the issues and bring an everlasting succor over the hardship of Nigerian students to register for the Direct Entry at JAMB office’s in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
