A new chapter has commenced at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as National Commissioner May Agbamuche-Mbu has officially taken the helm as Acting Chairman following the departure of Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who is entering his terminal leave after completing his tenure.
This pivotal transition was confirmed on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) held at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja.
In a photograph shared by INEC, Professor Yakubu was seen formally handing over official documents to Agbamuche-Mbu, signaling her leadership as the Commission gears up for crucial electoral activities leading to the 2027 general elections.
Representing the South-South geopolitical zone, May Agbamuche-Mbu brings extensive legal and administrative expertise to her new role. Her assumption of office is anticipated to foster continuity in INEC’s operations and bolster preparations for credible electoral reforms.
