Sagamu Road: Residents Cries Out For Urgent Repair, Seek Government Intervention On Numerous Potholes Along Sabo Market To Sympather Junction

Residents, road users, okada riders, and motorists plying the Ode Lemo road, area of Sagamu Local Government in Ogun State have taken to the streets and phone lines to express their distress and frustration over the deplorable condition of the road. The road, which connects several key areas, including Sabo Sagamu market, Muslim High School, Temidire, Oginni, Ibelefu, Atoyo, and Ode Lemo, has become a nightmare for commuters due to numerous potholes that have caused several accidents, injuries, and damages to vehicles.
According to eyewitnesses, the potholes on the road are deep and numerous, stretching from Sabo Sagamu market axis to Sympather junction. The situation has become so dire that motorists and road users are finding it difficult to navigate the road without encountering problems. A particular hazardous section near MB Petroleum has been identified as a major accident blackspot, where swelled-up road surfaces have caused several injuries, particularly among inexperienced drivers.
The community’s entreaties, residents, commuter’s, and road users have appealed to Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, the Ogun East Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Princess Adesola Ayoola Elegbeji, the newly House of Representatives member for Remo Federal Constituency, the Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Afolabi Odulate, and State legislators Omooba Hon. Damilare Mohammed Bello and Hon. Ademola Adeyinka Adeniran (SAPELE), and other government officials, including Hon. Samsudeen Awofeso, the Hon. Councilor representing Ward 5 (area of the road), traditional and community leaders, and many other top influentials across Sagamu. They call for swift actions to either repair or properly maintain the road—if only to patch the existing potholes—recognizing that even minimal intervention could prevent further occurrences.
In a prior attempt to address the issues, the residents recalled that youths from the area had previously stormed the road for minor rehabilitation efforts advocating for temporary repairs, but despite their efforts, the road has continued to deteriorate. The residents are now seeking urgent action from the government to repair the road, even if it means patching up the potholes to prevent further accidents and damage to vehicles.
While crying out for help, the residents expressed their appreciation to Governor Abiodun for his visible contributions to road construction and infrastructural developments across Ogun State, particularly highlighting the recent launch of flight operations at the newly functioning Gateway International Airport. They commend his efforts in enhancing the region’s economic landscape but hope that such projects will not overshadow pressing local issues like the deplorable conditions of Ode Lemo Road, while also praying for the continued success of his administration and for the government to bring relief to the people of Ogun State.
The residents’ plea highlights the need for urgent attention to the Falilat Ogunkoya/Ode Lemo road, which has become a major concern for commuters and road users. It is hoped that the government will heed their call and take immediate action to repair the road and prevent further accidents.
