Breaking News: Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona Of Ijebuland To Be Laid To Rest Today In Accordance With Islamic Rites

The remains of Alayeluwa Kabiyesi Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, will be interred today (Monday) in accordance with Islamic rites. The burial ceremony is set to take place at 4:00 p.m. at the monarch’s residence in Igbeba Court, Ijebu Ode.

Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona passed away at the age of 91, dying peacefully on Sunday after a brief illness. His death occurred just hours after the passing of his close friend, former President Muhammadu Buhari, though further details regarding the circumstances of his demise remain limited.

Born on May 10, 1934, Oba Adetona ascended to the throne on April 2, 1960, making him one of Nigeria’s longest-serving traditional leaders. Throughout his 65-year reign, he garnered immense respect both within Ogun State and across the nation.

The late monarch was known for his close relationships with various national leaders, including Buhari, whose friendship with Adetona spanned decades and was fortified by shared experiences during Nigeria’s complex political landscape.
