EDUCATION: Ogun To Employ 2,000 Teachers As 45,000 Applicants Apply For Teaching Jobs
The Ogun State government has disclosed that about 45,000 people applied for the recent just concluded Ogun teach intern programme which was said to employ only 2,000 teachers.
The Ogun State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, who disclosed this at a stakeholders meeting noted that with the number of applicants, the State will select the best and they would resume work by April.
The Commissioner also uses the medium to inform the general public that education from primary to secondary school still remains free across the State and that any principal or head teacher caught violating the policy would be sanctioned.
He said “When this administration came on board, and because of the unconditional stage of the educational system, the governor declared a state of emergency in the sector, which was followed with massive rehabilitation and construction of more classrooms to enhance conducive learning atmosphere.

“And for the first time after eight years, this government have employed 1,000 teachers who have just been given permanent employment, with another set of 2,000 teachers about to be employed again under the OgunTeach Intern programme.
He disclosed that the governor was concerned about improving the level of securities of the schools in the state, and has, therefore, approved the recruitment of more security personnel to secure the schools as well as the construction of perimeter fencing.
