Remo Youth Association (RYA), the apex youth body in Remo Land, Ogun State, has trained 25 young people in digital skills to reduce unemployment and underemployment among Remo youths.
The Chairman of the Association, Comr Yaya Onagbesan, stressed that there is need for us to understand what is trending globally in business which is also a factor to social growth and development; Technology is number one.
The Chairman was accompanied to the training with Comrade Banwo Dolapo (RYA PRO).
Yaya noted that the training tagged: “Let’s Code 2.0”, was part of the association’s initiatives, aimed at improving the welfare of the youths in Remo Land.
According to him, the Let’s Code 2.0 training, aimed at beneficiaries from 18 to 35 years old, had 2 females and 23 males.
Yaya said the training took place for 3-days, adding that participants received training in web development and UX/UI.
With the training, I think that young people should be able to stand up for themselves and also impact their knowledge on others,” he said.
Yaya commended all the implementing partners involved in the success of the program in driving social impact in the lives of young people.
According to him, the supporting partners are Matrixlabs, Bashlab Innovation, Innovation Creed, Asiwaju Bisi Adegbuyi ICT and Resource Centre c/o of Ode Remo Development Council.
My special appreciation goes to my uncle who also is the Asiwaju of Ode Remo (Asiwaju Bisi Adegbuyi). As at the time he was in office as Post Master General of the Federation, he donated an ICT Resource centre to Ode Remo (20 brand new desktop computers and all network.
Yaya said the RYA would expand the training’s subsequent participants to reach more youth, emphasizing that donors were being identified for that purpose.

The lead facilitator, Temidayo said, the Journey so far has been interesting. While we were growing up, we don’t have such opportunity for the fact that fingers are not equal. So we brought this to the grassroot.
The founder of Innovation Creed, Opeoluwa, said Let’s Code is more of initiatives to help people having issues with starting tech skills. There are lot of materials online and we are only helping in giving direction to utilize them.

Adesina, a farmer by profession, said, I believe this training will help me build up my web space in terms of capacity building.
Jumoke, my eyes were opened to what I don’t know before and I hope someday, I will have the privilege of working internationally on tech skills.
Abiodun, one of the partners, our goal is to give back to people by dishing out right information through teaching people about technology. Thought, the turn out is not much, but we just want to inspire people by getting them informed. We shall continue teaching them virtually and also mentor them.
