“No Steady Power, No Second Term”, Tinubu Holds Himself Accountable Amidst Persistent Electricity Crisis – Peter Obi

In a bold campaign promise during the 2022 elections, President Bola Tinubu stated, “If I do not provide steady electricity in my first four years, do not vote for me for a second term.” However, as we enter January 2026, this commitment is being severely tested. The national grid has collapsed twice already this month, and this follows a total of twelve collapses throughout the previous year. This ongoing crisis starkly contradicts the promise made to the Nigerian people and should raise alarms among every concerned citizen.
While the nation grapples with this electricity deficit, President Tinubu is embarking on yet another foreign trip, this time to Turkey—home to approximately 87 million people and capable of generating and distributing over 120,000 megawatts of electricity. In stark contrast, Nigeria struggles to achieve even 5% of that capacity, highlighting the disparity and the pressing need for action.
We urge the President to prioritize addressing our nation’s pressing challenges instead of seeking solutions abroad. The ongoing situation raises concerns that we may soon hear of more trips to distant locations while critical issues at home remain unaddressed.
It is essential for our collective focus to shift back to ensuring good governance rather than fixating solely on the next election cycle. We must unite in demanding accountability and responsible leadership to alleviate the persistent suffering and indignity caused by poor governance.
