‎“Reflections On President Tinubu’s First Term: A Journey Of Transformation” — Olanrewaju Micheal George  ‎

Since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took office in May 2023, I have closely observed the transformative impact of his bold reforms on Nigeria’s trajectory. While the path has been challenging—marked by the real pain of subsidy removal and exchange rate adjustments—the foundations for a new Nigeria are clearly being established. My observations thus far underscore that continuity in this leadership is not only desirable but essential.

‎Economic Restructuring: The termination of the fuel subsidy and the unification of exchange rates were daunting choices. However, these decisions have restored Nigeria’s credibility, reduced waste, and attracted serious investors. We are witnessing tangible outcomes: inflation is beginning to decline, the naira is stabilizing, and oil production has reached its highest levels in years—these are not mere promises, but measurable results.

‎Revenue Enhancement: The Federal Inland Revenue Service achieved a historic collection of ₦21.6 trillion in 2024, the highest in Nigeria’s fiscal history. Additionally, record customs revenue has been realized through digital innovations. These financial gains are empowering states and local communities, enabling developmental projects that were previously unthinkable.

‎Educational Advancements: Significant reforms are evident in education. I have personally experienced the upgrade of Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijebu-Ode to a federal university. Living and working in Ogun, I understand that this transition means increased funding, more qualified lecturers, and enhanced opportunities for our students.

In Ogun, I have witnessed firsthand the progress: the Gateway International Airport is now commercial-ready, poised to facilitate passenger and cargo flights. This once-visionary project is transforming into a national asset.

‎Logistics Expansion: Nigeria is actively developing inland ports to alleviate congestion in Lagos, with a notable project underway in Ogun. The approval of the Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port promises to reduce costs, create jobs, and establish our state as a vital hub for West African trade.

‎Local Impact of Renewed Hope: The national reforms, from federal universities to transportation hubs, resonate with those of us who live and conduct business in Ogun. The implementation of a ₦70,000 minimum wage—some employers are already offering as much as ₦104,000—demonstrates that policies are beginning to benefit households directly.

‎Leadership Maximizing Opportunities: His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, has effectively leveraged federal initiatives to position Ogun for growth in education, aviation, trade, and industry while championing the Renewed Hope Agenda.

‎Learning from Global Examples: Historical journeys of reform, such as those experienced in India, Brazil, and Ghana, reveal that initial sacrifices can lead to long-term prosperity. Nigeria is on a similar path, and our patience today will pave the way for success tomorrow.

‎The Need for a Second Term: Based on my observations, the Renewed Hope Agenda was designed for more than a single term; it requires time to bear fruit. Continuity will ensure that the groundwork set in motion is nurtured to fruition.

‎Conclusion: While the hardships are genuine, the signs of progress are undeniable. My experiences during President Tinubu’s first term solidify my belief in the necessity of continuity. I extend my gratitude to my fellow Nigerians for their resilience during this period of reform, and I pray for God’s blessings on Nigeria, for the strength of our people, and for enduring prosperity.
