Sagamu Hoteliers Celebrate Year-End Gathering, Address Key Industry Challenges
The Hoteliers Association of Nigeria (HAN), Sagamu Zone, Ogun State Chapter, recently held its year-end celebration at Molaroid Hotel Sagamu, under the theme of “Professionalism and Security in the Hospitality Industry.” The event brought together hoteliers, security officials, and government representatives to engage in meaningful discussions about prevailing issues facing the sector.
Otunba Sunday Oyeyemi, Zonal Chairman of HAN, underscored the necessity for increased professionalization within the hospitality sector. He urged government authorities to implement regulations that would curb the rise of unlicensed hotels, enhancing service quality and ensuring fair competition among operators.
ACP Akinjide Jones Alabi, the Area Commander for Sagamu, emphasized the critical role of security in hospitality. He advised hoteliers to adopt stringent security measures such as guest identity verification, installation of CCTV cameras, and proper documentation practices. He praised the Ogun State Commissioner of Police for effectively utilizing ICT in crime prevention efforts.
Mrs. Funmilayo Ilori, Director of Hotels and Allied Services, commended HAN leadership for its initiatives to educate members about security strategies and called for ongoing collaboration between the government and hoteliers. Omoba Dada, Leader of the Elders Council of HAN, voiced concerns regarding multiple taxation and urged the government to create an enabling environment for the industry’s growth.
The event also featured an awards ceremony honoring three outstanding hoteliers who have made significant contributions to the development of the hospitality sector in the Sagamu Zone. The recipients were Omoba Olujimi Dada, Prince Abdul Wahab Abayomi, and Alhaji Femi Oteju.
This year-end gathering provided an essential platform for hoteliers to engage with key stakeholders, discuss the challenges they face, and collaborate on future strategies to foster growth in Ogun State’s hospitality industry.
