Salisu Highlights Education, Digital Empowerment And Infrastructure As Key Pillars Of Ogun Central Representation

The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, has reaffirmed his commitment to education, technology and grassroots development, describing investment in human capital as a critical pathway to empowering young people and strengthening families.

Salisu stated this while receiving members of the Gateway Bloggers at his residence in Abeokuta, where he reviewed some of the constituency interventions facilitated during his tenure.

The senator said his decision to prioritise educational development was driven by his belief that quality education provides young people with the knowledge and skills needed to build sustainable futures and contribute meaningfully to society.

According to him, while his constituency interventions cover areas such as roads, streetlights, water supply and economic empowerment, education and technology have remained central to his development priorities.

He disclosed that schools across the six local government areas that make up Ogun Central had benefited from interventions including ICT centres, science laboratories, laptops, smart bags and other educational facilities.

Salisu also explained that the digital empowerment initiatives were designed to prepare constituents, particularly young people, for the changing demands of the modern economy. He said more than 2,000 constituents had so far received training and laptops through programmes facilitated under his digital empowerment efforts.

The lawmaker urged members of the media and content creators to visit communities and institutions where the projects were executed, stressing that many of the interventions were initiated in response to requests and identified needs from beneficiaries.

Beyond education and technology, Salisu highlighted a number of infrastructure projects facilitated across Ogun Central, including the rehabilitation of the Camp–FUNAAB Alabata Road and the construction of Phase One of the Arakanga–Mawuko Road.

He described the Arakanga–Mawuko Road project as particularly significant, noting that the road had reportedly remained abandoned for more than three decades before the intervention.

The senator also listed several communities that had benefited from solar-powered borehole projects, including Olomore Market in Abeokuta North, Onikolobo in Abeokuta South, Okungbolu Village in Ifo, Temidire Junction in Ibafo and Ekerin Village in Odeda.

He explained that access to clean and reliable water remained an important component of grassroots development and improving the living conditions of residents.

Salisu further disclosed that solar-powered community ICT centres, equipped to support digital access and learning, had been provided alongside borehole facilities at the Government Technical College, Idi-Aba; Community High School, Oluke, Ifo; and the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Obafemi Owode.

He said the interventions were aimed at addressing gaps in infrastructure and digital access while expanding opportunities for education, skills development and economic participation.

On community security and mobility, the senator said more than 1,000 solar-powered streetlights had been installed across Ogun Central. According to him, the projects were intended to improve visibility at night, support safer communities and contribute to economic activities in the affected areas.

Salisu, who serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cyber Security, also spoke about the relevance of his committee responsibilities to his efforts to promote technology and digital development.

He said his position had provided an additional platform to attract opportunities to Ogun State while contributing to national conversations and policies concerning information and communication technology, cybersecurity and broader technological development.

The senator stressed that his responsibilities as a legislator extended beyond constituency projects, noting that he had remained actively involved in Senate debates, committee proceedings and legislative engagements on issues relating to governance, technology and national development.

On his legislative record, Salisu said he had sponsored four bills which, according to him, were intended to address issues affecting Nigerians and deliver practical benefits at the grassroots.

Looking ahead, the Ogun Central senator said his immediate focus remained on consolidating existing achievements and attracting additional interventions capable of delivering sustainable benefits to his constituents.

He also spoke on the importance of accountability and responsible leadership, saying that public office holders should remain conscious of the confidence placed in them by the people.

Salisu urged members of the Gateway Bloggers Alliance to continue educating the public about the constitutional responsibilities of senators and other elected representatives. He also called for responsible journalism anchored on truth, accuracy and public interest.

The engagement provided an opportunity for the senator to outline his approach to constituency representation, with particular emphasis on education, digital empowerment, infrastructure, basic amenities and legislative advocacy as areas of focus in his service to Ogun Central.
