After 12 years of connecting Nigerians to ride-hailing services, global mobility company Uber has officially ended its operations in Nigeria.
The company announced the decision in a statement on Wednesday, confirming that its Nigerian operations would be wound down effective September 2, 2026, following a comprehensive review of its business in the country.
Uber first launched its services in Lagos in 2014, becoming one of the major players in Nigeria’s rapidly growing ride-hailing market. Over the years, the platform provided transportation options for millions of journeys, including daily commutes, visits to family and friends, and other trips across the city and beyond.
In announcing its departure, Uber thanked Nigerians for the trust they placed in its platform and for making it part of their everyday transportation experience.
The company, however, acknowledged that the decision to leave Nigeria could affect the routines of customers who relied on its services. It expressed regret over the disruption and apologised for any inconvenience the shutdown may cause.
Uber said its Help Centre will remain accessible until September 23, 2026, to assist customers with final enquiries and account-related concerns following the closure.
The exit marks the end of Uber’s 12-year presence in the Nigerian market, bringing to a close a significant chapter in the country’s evolving ride-hailing industry.
