Akara, Bread Business Earned Me At Least ₦10m Monthly — Gov. Umo Eno
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has shared an account of his early business experience, revealing that his akara and bread venture once earned him at least ₦10 million every month.
Eno explained that he started the business by selling akara and bread, including a special combination he described as an “akara burger,” where akara was placed inside bread for customers.
“We still have that shop there, and I started selling akara and bread. We were doing bread and akara burger. We opened the bread and put akara in it for you,” the governor said.
According to him, the business attracted workers heading to their offices in the mornings, particularly employees of ExxonMobil, who would stop by to buy akara and bread. He said he later added a coffee shop to the business, giving customers the option of having coffee with their breakfast.

“People going to work at ExxonMobil would buy it in the morning and take coffee. We started a coffee shop, and then they would take it every morning,” Eno recalled.
The governor said the venture eventually became a substantial source of income for him, generating no less than ₦10 million monthly.
“That akara business and that bread used to give me not less than ten million naira, not less than that,” Eno said.
