NDLEA And RYA Launch Campaign Rally Against Drug Abuse In Remo Land
In a collaborative effort to combat drug abuse, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Remo Division partnered with the Remo Youth Association (RYA) to organize a series of events commemorating the 2025 International Campaign Day Against Drug Abuse. The initiative kicked off with a retreat program in Ilishan Remo on June 22, 2025, before transitioning to a vibrant road walk rally in Sagamu on June 23, culminating in a seminar held today, June 24, 2025, at the Akarigbo Palace Hall in Sagamu.
The road walk began at Express Junction and made its way to Sabo Sagamu, drawing attention to the pressing issue of drug abuse in the community. The subsequent seminar attracted a diverse audience, including youths from across Remo Land, traditional and community leaders, market traders, and school students.
Welcoming attendees to the seminar, NDLEA Remo Command Area Commander, Mr. Olamide Johnson, outlined the purpose of the program, emphasizing the crucial aim of raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and fostering community participation in crime prevention efforts.
Ogun State Deputy State Commander of NDLEA, DCN Eucharia Ekwu, addressed the audience, highlighting the importance of community involvement in preventing drug-related crimes. “The fight against drug abuse is not just the responsibility of the NDLEA but of every member of this community,” she stated.
Comrade Bidemi Solarin, Chairman of the RYA, spoke on behalf of Remo youths, advocating for community-based initiatives to prevent drug abuse. He urged collective action, stressing that the youth play a pivotal role in promoting healthy lifestyles and raising awareness about the harms of drugs.
The seminar featured a series of discussions centered around the theme, “Break the Circle, Evidence is Clear: Campaign Against Drug Abuse.” Various invited speakers shared insights and strategies on how to support the NDLEA in eradicating drug abuse in Remo Land.
Dr. (Mrs.) Womiloju Okewo, Principal General of all Secondary Schools in Remo Land, shared her experience regarding the detrimental effects of drug abuse on students’ lives. She urged the NDLEA to extend its campaigns into schools and suggested practical solutions to address the consequences of drug abuse among students.
An interactive session allowed attendees to engage directly with NDLEA officials, posing questions and sharing their thoughts on drug prevention strategies. The dialogue fostered a sense of community involvement and accountability in the fight against drug abuse.
A goodwill message was delivered by Hon. Soyoye Akinyode Solomon (SAWI), who highlighted the campaign’s significance for the community and the need for ongoing support for such initiatives. Representing His Royal Majesty, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, the Ologijo of Ogijo Remo imparted the Akarigbo’s goodwill message, underscoring the royal commitment to curbing drug abuse in the region.
The event witnessed the participation of numerous NDLEA officers, members of the Nigeria Police Force, market traders, youths, and other dignitaries, all united in the mission to promote a drug-free community in Remo Land. The collaboration between the NDLEA and RYA reflects a committed stance against drug abuse, emphasizing the importance of community engagement in fostering a safer and healthier environment for all.
