‎FG Set To Launch 12-Month Paid Fellowship Program For Unemployed Youth Across All 36 States And FCT

The Federal Government, through the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP), is poised to unveil a groundbreaking initiative aimed at connecting unemployed graduates across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with valuable paid work experience.

‎During a recent press briefing in Abuja, Ibrahim Hadejia, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, underscored the program’s significance in advancing President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by addressing youth unemployment and enhancing national productivity. The official launch, slated for Wednesday at the State House Conference Centre, will be presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

‎”The 12-month fellowship offers graduates significant placements in both the public and private sectors, accompanied by a monthly stipend of ₦150,000,” Hadejia explained. “This initiative equips Nigerian youth with vital skills and practical experience, helping to mitigate the economic challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

‎The NJFP is backed by esteemed international partners, including the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The EU has committed €44 million to support the program’s implementation, while the UNDP expressed enthusiasm for its collaboration to strengthen various Nigerian institutions.

‎”This initiative not only empowers the youth directly but also enhances workforce capacity at a national level,” Hadejia added.

‎Employers stand to gain as well, benefiting from access to skilled talent, reduced recruitment costs, and increased productivity. For the fellows, the experience gained through the program could lead to permanent employment opportunities, entrepreneurial endeavors, or other career advancements.

‎”Upon completing the program, companies have the option to retain the fellows, or these young Nigerians may embark on business ventures that generate further employment opportunities,” Hadejia noted.

‎With robust support from the Nigerian government, the EU, and UNDP, the NJFP aims to foster a more robust and inclusive workforce, paving the way for improved economic prospects for Nigeria’s youth.
