Ajayi Resigns From Ogun SUBEB, Reportedly Set For PDP Defection and Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello’s 2027 Campaign

Hon. Donaldson Abiodun Ajayi, a Permanent Member of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has resigned from his appointment, amid reports that he is preparing to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ajayi is also reportedly being lined up for a prominent role in the 2027 campaign organisation of Senator Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello.
His resignation was contained in a letter dated August 31, 2026, addressed to the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Oluseun Abiodun. In the letter, Ajayi formally tendered his resignation as a Permanent Member of SUBEB, with effect from the same date.
Explaining his decision, Ajayi said the resignation was principally prompted by his “emerging political responsibilities.” He explained that, rather than placing himself in a situation where he would have to juggle competing responsibilities, expectations or political orientations, he considered it more honourable, responsible and principled to voluntarily relinquish his appointment.
Ajayi also stressed that his decision was not motivated by dissatisfaction with Governor Abiodun, his administration or the Board.
He expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve the people of Ogun State, while reaffirming his commitment to the peace, unity, progress and development of the state.

Ajayi’s resignation has generated political interest across Ogun State, particularly against the backdrop of reports that he is preparing to dump the APC for the PDP and assume a prominent position in Senator Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello’s 2027 campaign organisation.
If confirmed, his reported political realignment could add to the campaign’s mobilisation efforts as political activities and preparations for the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum across the state.
The development also comes amid a period of growing political realignments in Ogun State, with politicians and political stakeholders positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 electoral contest.
However, while Ajayi’s resignation from SUBEB is confirmed by the letter, the document does not state that he has resigned his APC membership or joined the PDP.
His reported defection to the PDP and proposed role in Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello’s campaign will therefore require confirmation from Ajayi himself or the relevant political parties.
